Volunteer Opportunities

A caring heart, patience, compassion, and an interest in learning new things are requirements when working with our horses and students. Volunteers must be polite, courteous and respectful, even in challenging circumstances. They must be dependable and consistent in attendance and performance, and alert to the unexpected. Volunteers 12 and 13 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times who is volunteering with them. Once a volunteer is 14 years of age or older, they can volunteer by themselves.

Our volunteers help with our horses and support program participants in classes. Volunteers do basic barn work cleaning stalls, filling water buckets, turning horses out and sweeping. During class times, volunteers will be preparing (grooming and tacking) the horses for class, leading the horses or side-walking along with the rider.

Other volunteer opportunities:

  • Office work (filing, data entry, mailings);
  • Special events;
  • Gardening;
  • Working in our on-site country store,The Pantry at Pegasus Farm;
  • Building and property maintenance;
  • Serving on committees / Board of Trustees.

All volunteers must complete and/or abide by the following rules:

  • Attend a scheduled 2 1/2 hour volunteer orientation class. Our class schedule is listed on this site;
  • No smoking, drugs, alcohol or bad language on the premises. Pegasus Farm practices zero-tolerance;
  • Treat all humans and animals with respect and consideration;
  • Wear proper attire for the work and the weather, including sturdy shoes or boots;
  • Avoid any action that could cause harm to the riders, volunteers, horses or others;
  • Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check;
  • Always follow the direction of instructors or staff;
  • Notify the office of changes in scheduled volunteer time;
  • Ask questions if you don't understand what is expected of you;
  • Enjoy the volunteer opportunities at Pegasus Farm.

There are many rewards in volunteering at Pegasus Farm. The excitement of learning new skills, the camaraderie of working with others who share your interests and passion are among these benefits, but the most rewarding part of volunteering at Pegasus is knowing you are helping people experience a more productive and enjoyable life.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday and all day on Saturday. The Farm is closed on Sunday but there is still work to do with the horses and in the barn. The Farm does not have a requirement as to when and how many hours a volunteer must be at the Farm, but we do ask for a commitment. Most of our volunteers commit to 3 to 4 hours once a week, while others are only able to volunteer once or twice a month. We are happy to work with your schedule.
