Volunteer Orientation Classes

We welcome all new volunteers to the farm. Our way of helping volunteers get acquainted with Pegasus Farm is through our volunteer orientation class. This class is required for all new volunteers or any volunteers that have been inactive within the last 2 years.

The volunteer orientation class lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours and includes several very important topics:

Completion of the volunteer application and criminal background check authorization form (required for all volunteers over the age of 18) will be the first order of business. A brief history and overview of Pegasus Farm will be given; this presentation will include the farm's mission statement and a description of all the programs offered at the farm.

A short video will be viewed; this video includes interviews from past participants, staff, volunteers and board members. We like all our new volunteers to have a true understanding of the importance of the farm and how we impact not only our program participants, but everyone who walks through our doors.

The orientation program finishes with a tour of the farm. On this tour, we discuss barn safety, barn policies and procedures. Volunteers will also see a brief demonstration of proper horse handling, leading, grooming, tacking and assisting in classes. All of this information is covered very quickly, but please don't get discouraged. All new volunteers will work with a mentor volunteer for the first couple weeks of his or her service.

Once the orientation is completed, the farm conducts a criminal background check on each prospective volunteer, the cost of which is covered by the farm. The prospective volunteer is notified if anything of concern is reported. Otherwise, the volunteer is ready to start.

Anyone is welcome to volunteer at Pegasus Farm and no previous experience is necessary. However, we ask for a time commitment, whether that's once a week for 3 hours or once a month for 3 hours. The volunteer coordinator will work with your schedule. We appreciate all our volunteers and we would not be Pegasus Farm without them!!

An RSVP is required in order to attend your selected training class. Orientation classes will be held in the Firestone Arena on the Farm property located at 7490 Edison St. NE, Hartville, Ohio 44632. A minimum of attendees for each class is required, so please check to be certain the class will be conducted as planned. Please call the Volunteer Director at 330-935-2300 ext. 5 to RSVP or email at missy@pegasusfarm.org if you have any questions.
